Billy Joe Shepard, a resident of Dothan, died unexpectedly at his home Thursday morning, February 23, 2017. He was 72.

Funeral services for Billy Joe will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Reverend Ray Jones officiating. Private family burial will be held at Memory Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Friday, February 24, 2017 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity or the Wiregrass Area Food Bank, 383 Twitchell Road, Dothan, Al 36303.

Billy Joe was born May 17, 1944 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Auborn Joseph and Lillie Pauline Parrish Shepard. He was a 1962 graduate of Geneva County High School where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was the captain and MVP for the 1961 Bulldogs. After graduation, he started Shepard Tile Company that he owned and operated for 42 years. Most recently he was employed by the Azalea Swim and Tennis Club where he loved to play tennis and be with friends. Billy Joe was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Johnny Oppert Sunday School Class.

Billy Joe is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Aubrey Lee, Robert and Mack Shepard.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Janice Shepard, daughter, Amy Shepard Williams, son and daughter in law, Lance and Sonja Shepard; grandchildren, Briggs, Auborn, Hayes and Gabbi; mother in law, Myrtle Cobb; sister Sara and David Kirkland; two brothers, Gerald Shepard, Johnny and Jane Shepard.
