William (Bill) Cecil Webb, Sr. died Thursday, February 6, 2019 at his residence. He was 93 years old.
Bill was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 22, 1925 to Cecil Mayo and Hallie Kelley Webb. His parents moved to Columbus, Georgia. He attended public school in Columbus, Georgia and Tampa, Florida, graduating from Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia in January of 1944.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corp Reserves in 1943 and was called to active duty in January of 1944. He served 2 years, 2 months, and 6 days. He was discharged at the end of WWII, and went to work in Florida in the family business, Dixie Lily Foods. He merged the company in 1970 with ConAgra Foods of Omaha, Nebraska. He started his career as a salesman and retired as president of the company.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Sonya Webb, and Karla Webb Nelson; a son, William Cecil Webb, Jr.; and brother, Charles Webb.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Sybil Grinstead Webb; a son, Wade W. Webb; granddaughter, Jessica Roberts and husband Josiah; grandson, Jonathan Nelson and wife Danna; and a great many beloved nieces and nephews.
At his request, there was no public funeral service. Bill’s wishes were for cremation, and a private family memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019. If anyone would like to give a memorial gift, he would want it to go to the Florida Sherriff’s Youth Ranches, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, Florida 32064-9984 or to the Chipley Library.
