Wiley Richard Sprayberry

Wiley Sprayberry, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, died August 13, 2021. He was 69 years old.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Dothan City Cemetery with Matt Sprayberry officiating and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church 1380 West Main Street Dothan, Alabama 36301. The family kindly requests those who are planning to attend to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing due to the ongoing pandemic.

Wiley was born July 25, 1952 in Sylacauga, Alabama to the late Heflin (Hamp) and Carolyn Deal Sprayberry. His parents moved to Dothan at an early age. He was a 1971 graduate of Dothan High School and later graduated from Troy University. He was employed with the State of Alabama Department of Labor Unemployment Division for 15 years.

Wiley is a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church where he is a member of the Progressor’s Sunday School Class. He is an avid Auburn fan and enjoyed playing golf, visiting with his coffee group, and spending time with his grandchildren and family at the lake.

Wiley was a loving husband, stepfather, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Sprayberry of Dothan, Alabama; two stepdaughters, Tara Barr (Len) of Auburn, Alabama, and Laura Thomas (Sloan) of Dothan, Alabama; four grandchildren, Hamilton Barr and Morgan Len Barr of Auburn, Alabama, Laney Thomas and Sloan Thomas, Jr. of Dothan, Alabama; a sister in law, Linda McGhee of Dothan, Alabama; two brothers, David Sprayberry (Shirley) of Oakdale, Tennessee, Danny Sprayberry of Berwick, Louisiana; a sister in law, Pam Sprayberry of Berwick, Louisiana; a sister, Sallie King (Tom) of Sterling, Alaska; several nieces and nephews; Kit Guidroz (Rollan), Zack Sprayberry, Sara Sprayberry, Matt Sprayberry (Cathy), Susan Sprayberry, Carma King (David Marion), Jarod King (Kayla), and Carrie King (Jason Christmas).

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a great niece, Carrie Guidroz.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Grimmer, Jason McGhee, Billy Richards, Zack Sprayberry, Sloan Thomas, and Carl White.
