Mary Kathryn (Adams) Espy

Mary Kathryn Adams Espy, a resident of Gordon, died Monday, October 16, 2023 at her residence. She was 102.

Funeral services for Mrs. Espy will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 21, 2023 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Gordon City cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mrs. Espy was born October 7, 1921 in Quitman, Mississippi to the late Clyde Oates and Kate Alice Williams Adams, Sr. She moved to Ashford at an early age and later attended business college in Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Espy worked at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base and served as Post Mistress in Ashford during World War II. She was a member of First United Methodist of Ashford and Gordon United Methodist church. Mrs. Espy enjoyed playing bridge, the UMW and was a founding member of the Ashford Study Club.  She will be remembered as a Southern lady of kindness, dignity and strength.

Mrs. Espy is preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Espy, Sr. and a son, John Robert Espy, Jr.

Survivors include her brother, Roy C. Adams, Sr. and wife, Jeanette of Monroeville, Alabama along with many nieces and nephews.
