John Benjamin Vaughn, I, a resident of Dothan, died Friday, July 8, 2022 at his residence. He was 53.

Memorial services for John will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with sons, John Benjamin Vaughn, II and Joshua Vaughn giving eulogies. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

John was born August 22, 1968 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Clayburn and Mary Smith Vaughn. He was a 1986 graduate of Dothan High School. John worked as a Deputy for Houston County Sheriffs Department and was Assistant Police Chief in Cottonwood before taking a medical retirement. One of John’s favorite things to do was dress up as Santa Clause for the children and cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide.

John is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Angela Pace and Andrea Mims.

John is survived by his wife, Sheila Vaughn; children, John Benjamin Vaughn, II (Libby), Joshua Vaughn, Jamilyn Vaughn, Jason Justice, Jerrica Alexander (Rich), Jorja Hunter who he loved like a daughter; eleven grandchildren; siblings, Clayburn Vaughn, Charles Vaughn and Rhonda Sims; two special friends, Jim May and Brent Thomas.
