Frank Fitch Obituary

Frank Fitch, 87, died peacefully at his home in Gordon, Alabama on October 5, 2023. He was a loving and dedicated family man, honorable veteran, and a respected member of the community.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM (CST) on Saturday, October 7, 2023 in the Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Ham officiating and Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the Dothan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama (rmhca.org) or to the charity of your choice.

Frank was born November 24, 1935 to the late J. F. Fitch Sr and Eddie Lou Conrad Fitch. He attended Harmon School and then graduated from Ashford High School in 1953. After high school, he served his country as a Bridge Specialist with the United States Army’s 553rd Engineer Company. After his stint in the military, he returned home to Gordon in 1960 and the following year married the love of his life, Sarah. He was a lifelong farmer, farming the same land on which he was born. He was a member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church.

Frank’s life was centered around the farm and his family. He was a quiet, unassuming, wise man with a firm handshake and a kind heart. His family and friends knew him as a hardworking and thoughtful man who was always willing to lend a hand and provide sound advice as needed. He was also a tactful man who knew that sometimes the best comment was indeed no comment at all. He enjoyed being on the farm, in the fields, and tending to his cattle. George Washington once said “I had rather be on my farm than be emperor of the world” and that was Frank.

Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sarah Olive Fitch; his son Frank Lee (Amy) Fitch; his grandson, Zane Turner Fitch, all of Gordon, Alabama; and his brother, James Floyd (Emily) Fitch, Jr. of Ashford, Alabama.

The family extends a special “Thank You” to Gentiva Hospice and to caregivers Tammie Brown and Evelyn Bryant. You were all such a blessing.

“Agriculture is the most healthful, most useful, and most noble employment of man”. – George Washington

Serving as pall bearers will be James Mooneyham, Jon Olive, Clay Patrick, Terry Parrish, Charles Weeks, and Mike Olive.
