Donald Albert Hicks, a resident of Ashford, died Thursday, December 9, 2021 at his residence. He was 70.
Funeral services for Donald will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday December 12, 2021 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend Dean Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Creek United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2:15 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Creek United Methodist Church, PO Box 677, Ashford, Alabama 36312.
Donald was born in Ashford on July 17, 1951 to the late Albert and Mary Pauline Smith Hicks. He moved to Dothan at an early age and was a 1969 graduate of Dothan High School. Following high school, Donald began a career with the Dothan Fire Department and retired after 27 years as a Battalion Chief. While working with the fire department he also worked as a Paramedic for Pilcher’s Ambulance Service. He had a love for the outdoors which included hunting, fishing, and collecting arrowheads. Donald was a member of Rocky Creek United Methodist church.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Lynn Hicks; and a sister, Sylvia Diane Hicks.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jo Anne Hicks; sons, Barry Albert Hicks (Melanie), John Ashley Hicks (Wendy), Clayton Ryan Hicks (Whitney); grandchildren, Bryson Hicks (Abby), DJ Hicks, Molly Grace Hicks, and one on the way, Waylon James Hicks; sister in law, Katherine Hicks; two aunts, Annette Gamble (Robert), Martha Shelley (Bobby); uncle, Sammy Hicks (Hilda); several nieces and nephews.
