Billie Shirah Obituary

Billie McKay Shirah, 95, a resident of Dothan Alabama died on May 10, 2022 surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of her life will be held on May 14, 2022 at 11 AM at Cornerstone Church in Dothan, Alabama with Pastor Bobby Marks officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in Rehobeth, Alabama.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, Alabama 36303.                             

Mrs. Shirah was born October 20, 1926, to Lewie and Trudie McKay in Dothan, and was the oldest of seven sisters.  She lived most of her life in Dothan where she last worked for the City of Dothan in the Accounting Department before retirement.  Mrs. Shirah was a faithful member of her church over the years, most recently at Cornerstone Church.  She lived her life in a way that exemplified the scripture: Proverbs 31:10 “For her worth is far above rubies.”

Mrs. Shirah is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Shirah; daughter, Bobbie O’Connor of Jacksonville FL; sons, Woody Garner (Rebecca) of Jacksonville FL, Tommy Shirah (Sherri) of Dothan AL; sisters, Jean Sykes of Panama City, FL and Nell Sizemore of Dothan AL, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
