Martha Jo Jones

Martha Jo Jones, a resident of Dothan, died October 20, 2017 at Extendicare Health and Rehab. She was 85.

Celebration of Life services for Mrs. Jones will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, October 23, 2017 at Evergreen Presbyterian church with the Reverend Dr. Joseph Johnson and Reverend Ashley Drake Mertz officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until 10:15 AM at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Evergreen Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, 1103 N. Pontiac, Dothan, AL 36303.

Martha Jo was born in Houston County, Alabama on October 24, 1931. Her father was James Rush Sorrells who died while she was attending Dothan High School where she was head drum majorette. Years later her mother, Gladys, married Julian Turner. Martha Jo attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery and then Troy University before teaching one year at Webb, Alabama. She married Stanley E. Jones, Jr. (Jake) on June 11, 1954 and moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma to start a long and happy marriage. They had two children, Stanley E. Jones, III and James Rush Jones. Stan married Julia Johnson of Dothan and they provided a wonderful family with four sons who grew up in Dothan. Martha Jo loved and enjoyed the entire family. Martha Jo never met a stranger and was loved by all. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and mother in law. Martha Jo loved travelling the world with her friends and family.

Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her son, James Rush Jones, her father, James Rush Sorrells, her mother, Gladys Turner and her step father, Julian Turner.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley E. Jones, Jr. (Jake), son, Stan Jones and wife, Julie, sister, Mary Rush Embry and her husband, Bob, four grandsons, Turner Jones and wife, Mary Olivia, David Jones and wife, Claire, Stanley E. Jones IV and Rush Jones.
