My dear precious friend Laura we still miss you so, so much. My heart is still broken. At 32yrs. old our son Michael also passed away with liver cancer. Actually, started in his pancreas then promptly spread to his liver. He too thought very highly of you but really loved Jeremy. I enjoy thinking you two have found each other in Heaven and have given each other hugs from all the members of both families.
YOU BOTH WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I hosted afternoons at woof fm a few years before Laura got the job. I was new to radio and I was not able to hold the job for more than a few months. There were a few others after me who also came and went quickly. Then Laura Pate came along and owned it. There was no one else like her. She was uniquely talented. As my career (and my ability) improved I landed a pd job at a classic rock station in Montgomery. When we needed a fulltime announcer I immediately thought of Laura. She turned me down in 2 seconds flat. I thought she was making a mistake and I said so. Laura proved me wrong and Im so glad she did. Her 3 decades at WOOF were an amazing accomplishment. After a life altering personal trajedy I returned to the Dothan area in 2002. I was in very bad shape and more than anything I needed a friend. I had not known Laura personally until then. We started a friendship based on our common interest and lengthy careers in radio. Laura's generosity of spirit was incredible. She spent many hours talking to me on the phone, and instant messaging. She spent time with me, going to the movies and having a meal now and then. Realizing I was a fellow animal lover, she invited me to her home to meet her dogs. She had about six of them and they all met us at the door. It was wonderful. Laura did all of this out of friendship. After a few months I moved on to take a job near Atlanta. We lost touch. Anytime I happened to be in the wiregrass area I would call her and go on about her incredible accomplishments at WOOF fm and with her animal rescue activities. I last spoke to her in 2015. Tonight my work brought me through the area. I thought of Laura and decided to look her up on the WOOF fm website. I had no idea that she was gone. What a devastating loss. I am truly heartbroken. I never had courage to tell Laura how her friendship had changed my life, but I think she knew. I doubt I would have survived without it. Laura saved a lot of animals but it didnt end there. Im sure Im not the only one. There will never be another like you Laura.

To the Family of Ms. Laura Pate:

I was so sorry to learn of the passing of your devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt and very special friend.
I have been a faithful listener to the WOOF Family for many long years. I remember listening to Ms. Pate's voice on the radio. She sounded so very nice and concerned. She had a special place in her heart for all of god's creatures. I can relate to that, because I have taken care of several rescue animals myself. I now have 30 cats that I am taking care of now. All of them have been spayed and neutered. Someone has to take care of God's special creatures. I believe this makes a person very caring in all so many ways.
Please accept my deepest sincere sympathy at Ms. Pate's passing. But rest assured, she is at a better place now. No more pain or suffering, only peace. May God bless each of you in this very painful process. Take care and may God bless you.

A friend Always,
Freddie J. Culver

Remembering a beautiful soul, Laura. We met in our neighborhood and became friends. You always made me laugh even when I didn't want to. I remember when you started working at Q97 while in high school, and the love you had for animals. You touched so many hearts of everyone and you will always be remembered. To your family, many prayers and much support as they are going through this sorrow time, however, we know that you are a beautiful Angel now even though it was not time to leave. Love Nicole

Jeremy, Mr. James & Mrs. Jerrilyn and Jeff.
It was such an honor to know Laura. Not only did I meet her through my work but when my husband Steve and I came out to Focklore that night to see John Corbin, I got to talk to her and she finally realized who I was (not just the person on the other end of the line at the Accountant's office), that she and my husband had went to Enterprise High School together and were actually in the same class. Small world after all. We laughed and talked about how she always used the same phrase on air when you she was describing the person that had just one a contest. She always said., "Let's send a BIG OLE congratulations out to _______..". She always said BIG OLE. She was definitely from the south. I am going to miss hearing her "BIG OLE" voice everyday, as I know you are too. God bless you and may he bring peace to you in the coming days. Mandy

Laura was a beautiful lady with such a compassionate heart and soul. She was such a great supporter to our organization, Felines Under Rescue, and was so dedicated to the need of spay and neuter. She will always be remembered for her dedication and love to all animals. She will be missed by all those whose lives she has touched. She may be gone but she will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to her family and to the Woof family.

We were very saddened to hear of Laura's passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to each and all of her loving family. Her amazing heart and kindness will continue through others that she has inspired through her various works.

Jim and Jerrilyn,
I don't know if you remember me, but we were stationed at Ft. Rucker from 76-85. They were in the same unit. We went to a New Year's Eve party at your house many, many years ago. My husbands name was Ronnie Riley. I am so very sorry for the loss of Laura. She is in God's hands now. Thoughts and prayers for all of you.
