Steve Benefield, a resident of Cottonwood, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at his residence. He was 58.

Memorial services for Steve will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM and immediately following the service.

Steve was born March 17, 1958 in Columbus, Georgia to Robert Durl Benefield and Betty Joyce Phillips. He enjoyed the outdoors tending to his garden, his dogs and Sci-Fi.

Steve is preceded in death by his step father, Howard Smith and a nephew, Timothy Benefield.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Benefield, Cottonwood; son, Joshua Benefield, Cottonwood; daughter, Taylor Benefield, Cottonwood; mother, Betty J. Smith, Cottonwood; father, Robert Benefield (Pat), Flint, MI; brothers, Faron Benefield (Karen), Anniston, Dewayne Benefield, Ozark,  Michael Benefield, Montgomery; sister, Sharon Allen, Cottonwood; half-brother, Robbie Benefield; half-sisters, Stephanie Gingerich and Shelly Workman all of Michigan.

The family wishes to thank Lynda Campbell and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their love and care of Steve.
