James Virgil Hughes a resident of Gordon, died Friday August 25, 2017 at his residence. He was 87.

Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be held at 2 PM Monday, August 28, 2017 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend Coley M. Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the services at the funeral home.

Mr. Hughes was a lifelong resident of Houston County and was engaged in farming. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, James Hughes and Mammie Hughes McCorkle, one brother, Billy Gene Hughes.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years June Hughes, two sons; Gary Hughes (Sarah), Cary Hughes (Sandra), daughter; Sondra Boles, sister; Joan Odom, eleven  grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.
