Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory recently (April 16, 2010) celebrated 10 years of serving families in the Wiregrass area. Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, is independently owned by local businesspersons John Watson, Al Trull, Barbara Mathis Taylor. and Lance Shepard. Along with the experienced directors and staff that are also established in the local community, the owners are dedicated to the goal of assisting families in the Wiregrass area honor loved ones by celebrating their lives. Lance Shepard, Funeral Director & Co-Owner Lance has worked with Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory for the past four years. He became a certified crematory operator in 2003 and a licensed funeral director in 2004. Lance was born and raised in Dothan. He is a graduate of Dothan High School Class of 1988 and is a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Lance is the son of Billy Joe and Janice Shepard. He is married to the former Sonja Holsonback of Guntersville and they have two sons, Auborn and Hayes. If Lance can be of any service to you and your family, please feel free to give him a call. Larry Mills, Funeral Director & Embalmer 
Larry has worked with Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory for the past two years. He became a licensed embalmer and funeral director in 1974 and is a certified crematory operator. Larry was raised in Dothan. He graduated from Wicksburg High School in 1969 and is a member of Southside Baptist Church. Larry is married to the former Linda Bush of Dothan. Robert Farmer, Funeral Director Robert Farmer is a licensed funeral director and has been associated with the funeral service for over ten years. He is a member of the Slocomb Church of Christ and is married to the former Gwen Myers of Hartford. They have one daughter, Angela and a son, Frank, and three grandchildren. Dot Clearman, Family Assistant Dot Clearman has been associated with Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory since August 2003. Prior to that, she retired from The Square Cafeteria, where she worked with her late husband, Bill clearman. Between Bill and Dot, they had over one hundred years of serving the restaurant industry. Dot and first husband, the late Nip Howard, owned and operated Nip and Earnie’s Restaurant for 33 years. She is a member of Cloverdale United Methodist Church. Hugh Byrd Hugh formerly worked as Quality Control Inspector for Twitchell Corp. for fifteen years until his retirement in1999. After his retirement, he began working in the funeral industry and has continued in the business for seven and 1/2 years. Hugh has been married for thirty-five years to Judy Byrd and has five children. His hobbies include staying busy with work, fishing, and traveling. He is a member of Selma Baptist Church. Hugh invites all his friends to come visit him and meet the friendly, caring staff of Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Martha Crawford Martha has been associated with Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory since 2006 as Office Manager She is a licensed funeral director having been in the funeral service industry for several years prior to pursuing other endeavors. Martha was born and raised in Eufaula. She is married to Larry Crawford and has one son, Jeffrey Scott Peters and two grandsons, Jared and Jacob Peters. Martha is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attends the Kingdom Hall (Chapelwood Congregation) on Cottonwood Road. Earl and Merle Sellers Earl and Merle Sellers have been in the funeral business for 16 years. They live in Dothan and attend Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood where Earl serves as a deacon and Merle serves as Sunday School secretary and Women's Ministry Director. They have one son and daughter in law Steve and Sharon, who live in Destin, Florida. They consider working at Southern Heritage as a ministry instead of a job. They feel this was a calling from God and ordained by him in the early years of their marriage. They have been married for 54 years. Therefore, they have dedicated their lives to serve the people of this community. It is a privilege for them to serve all families in their time of need.
